Hurricane Katrina causes a Cleffie Soprano to flee New Orleans!

One of our sops, Jenny Petroni, was on Tony Backhouse's Gospel Tour of the American South in late August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf of Mexico.

The group had only been in New Orleans a day when they were ordered to evacuate. No way out but to take a cab. Yep, a $1,000 cab ride from NO to Memphis!

One of the group's cabbies, Norman, reckons God had sent him some angels to take him north, closer to where his family had evacuated a few days before. Some cabbies were thinking of returning to NO, but not Norman. He said that "If that hurricane took me and God met me at the Pearly Gates, he'd say to me, 'Norman, I sent you my angels from Australia to take you to Memphis, and you went back. What were you thinking man?'"
